Special Projects & Charities

By Judy Howard

As members of the Puget Sound Early Birds Car Club, we all share one thing in common --- the love of our “Little Birds”.  We feel privileged to own these beautiful classic cars of the 1950’s; however, ownership is a small part of what PSEB is all about (actually a person can become a member without owning a T-Bird). Our main purpose is to meet monthly, drive our cars on interesting tours, and socialize with each other.

We do, however, realize that there are folks in our area who aren’t as fortunate as we are.  Throughout the 33 years of the club’s history, we have recognized and honored our own, and at the same time we have reached out to those in need by providing financial and physical support.  The following special projects and charities reflect that we are a group of car enthusiasts who care about each other and the communities of Kitsap County.

Les Parizek was a founding/honorary member and past president of the Puget Sound Early Birds. He resided at Clearbrook Inn, Silverdale, until his death at age 90 in 2009.  In June 2006, the club sponsored a car show and barbecue to honor Les.  It was held at the facility.  In addition to PSEB, the Bremerton Auto Club and Olympic Vintage Automobile Club were invited to participate and those attending enjoyed a live band.  Les' family and friends were in attendance from Maryland, California, and Washington.  A biography of his life was presented and special remembrances were given to him from the three car clubs.  Approximately 200 people attended and there were more than 35 classic and vintage cars represented. Ray and Margaret Vingo's 1956 T-Bird, formerally owned by Les and Loretta Parizek, was showcased during the day. The event was such a success that the car show and barbecue continue to be held each Father's Day weekend, now sponsored by Clearbrook Inn.  PSEB is invited back each year.

 30th BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR PSEB - 1976 - 2006

Immediately following Les Parizek Day, a 30th birthday celebration was held at the home of  Patrick and Judith Howard, Poulsbo.  Balloons and club memorabilia were displayed throughout the house and Les and his family were honored guests.  Past Presidents were introduced and recognized with certificates of appreciation. Handmade birthday cards were given to all in attendance.  Appetizers, beverages, and birthday cake with ice cream were served.  A press release on Les Parizek Day and the Club's 30th birthday appeared in Kitsap SUN newspaper.

Club members submitted their favorite recipes and the first club cookbook was compiled and printed in 2007. Each couple received a complimentary copy.  Additional cookbooks were purchased to be given as gift

In addition to Club members supporting the local Food Banks in their time of need, PSEB has continued collecting toys and money at the November and December club events for US MARINES TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM.  Donations are taken to drop-off centers in December for distribution to the needy children living in Kitsap County.  To make a donation contact:      Toys for Tots, Kitsap County, Washington

PSEB believes that the craft of restoring and maintaining antique and classic automobiles must be supported.  Thus donations were given to the OCF for the Automotive Technology Department to assist deserving students who are studying automobiles and to recognize various club members:
